Early in 1980, a Visitation Committee was formed "to help the chaplains in the church's ministry of caring for the sick and members individually." To enable members of the Visitation Group fully meet the spiritual needs of the members of the Church, every first Monday of the month is devoted to Bible study, how to comfort and encourage people in distress, illness or bereavement and also how to pray. The Visitation Group meets regularly on Mondays and Tuesdays at 5.00 p.m. to visit and fellowship with the sick, bereaved, infirmed, lonely, handicapped and distressed members of the congregation. More than two hundred (200) visits arc made yearly to homes and hospitals. During visits, members arc comforted, encouraged arid strengthened through the word of God, singing of their favourite hymns and praying with them, often by seeking God at their request on specific issues. Each and every member of the group takes a turn at sharing the word of God and praying during the course of the year and thereby members of the Group are assisted in their own spiritual growth and in the knowledge of God. Members also attend funeral services on behalf of the Accra Ridge Church. The Church also provides some financial assistance to the distressed members as a show of concern through the Group. Visitation Group Week was celebrated a few times during the period under review. Activities during the week included attending the mid-week service on Wednesday, a retreat on Saturday and thanksgiving service on Sunday. In 2003, an uplifting service of praise and worship was held on the Thursday of the week and Rev. Addison from the Accra Chapel gave an exposition on the theme, "Comfort my people " (Isaiah 40). Membership is opened to all and a humble appeal is being made for more members, especially males, to join in this rewarding ministry. Presently, membership of the group consists of only members of the Ridge Church, but it is the hope that a group will be inaugurated at the Manet Chapel soon. |
“I am convinced that if we are to get on the right side of the world revolution, we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. The giant triplets of racism, materialism and militarism are incapable of being conquered. We need a true revolution of values to unseat the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth. A nation that continues year after year to pour money into war and ignoring social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
