Neighbourhood Fellowships Area meetings as they were called at the time began in 1968 spearheaded by the need for church members to know each other in their neighbourhoods. In 1974, 16 areas were identified where meetings could be held. Each Area group had a leader who would visit area members, arrange meetings and provide the Ministers with periodic reports. Later on, the area meetings were encouraged to add Bible study to their activities and also provide the forum to discuss important church matters. Suggestions at these meetings were passed on to the Council. The area groups were restructured in 1984 into smaller neighbourhood clusters and renamed Neighbourhood Fellowships. A Council member was appointed as Coordinator for these Fellowships. The Coordinator had oversight of the Fellowships, would visit their meetings as an observer and report to Council periodically on their activities. The vision of the Fellowship is to ensure that every church member actively participates in a cell group to foster the continuous spiritual growth within neighbourhoods and provide spiritual, physical and material support to church members should the need arise. The established groups are: Adabraka/Asylum Down, Legon, Abelemkpe, Dome/Parakuo, New Achimota, Odorkor, McCarthy Hill, Tesano, Cantonments, Labone, Latebiokorshie, Kaneshie, North Ridge, East Legon, Manet, Adenta, Ringway Estates/Osu, Korle-Bu, Kokomlemle, Dansoman and Haatso. Fellowship meetings are held once a week, fortnightly or monthly as decided by members. The Fellowships engage in topical studies, Bible study outlines and on Christian events like Christmas and Easter. Occasionally a guest speaker is invited to lecture on a topic after which follows discussion of salient points. Fellowship Week, quarterly leaders' meetings, end-of-year get-togethers and other social activities are also held. The Neighbourhood Fellowships help build bridges amongst the members of the church and ensures their welfare in a more meaningful way. |
“The most important thing in life is not to capitalise on your successes any fool can do that. The really important thing is to profit from your mistakes.”
