Men's Fellowship - (Manet) PDF  | Print |  E-mail
At an extra-ordinary meeting convened by Mr. Moses Tetteh and Akwetey Darko on Sunday 15th June 2003, the need to form a Men’s Fellowship in the Manet Chapel was effectively tabled. By popular acclamation, nucleus executives were chosen with Mr. Richard Okrah as President and Tony Djentuh as Secretary. After the initial teething problems John Emmanuel Amakye was elected as Vice President, George Asasa treasures, Nick Smart- Yeboah Organizing Secretary and Roland Akosah Welfare Officer.

The Fellowship was inaugurated on Sunday, 18th January 2004 by Rev. Dr. Ayete- Nyampong who was the Presbyterian Chaplain of the Accra Ridge Church, assisted by Mr. Out- Boateng the Chairman of Accra Ridge Council. The inauguration was a real challenge to the men of the Manet chapel. The activities and enthusiasm of the Manet Women’s Fellowship were a real bench-mark and challenge to the men. The membership at the inauguration was only fifteen (15). The membership now is forty-two (42) but the active members still hover around fifteen (15).

During the past two years of the Men’s Fellowship, a number of achievements and innovations were chalked:

The men acknowledged the importance of women, for the matter mothers. On Mothers‘Day each year, the day is celebrated at Manet chapel. Gifts are given to all mothers and potential mothers. It has always been a joy to watch our respectable mother’s receiving gifts from their husbands, father’s, uncles and sons over the years.

Once a while, health emergencies occur during church services. In order to facilitate medical personnel attendance to patients, a first-aid box stocked with appropriate drugs etc. was provided by the Fellowship. Not only this, but also a bed on which a patient would rest during and after treatment has been provided.

Having noticed that the wooden pews used in the church create discomfort for worshippers, the Fellowship provided firm high- density foam covered with a beautiful green upholstery material. Worshippers now enjoy church services which go beyond one and a half hours without complaining. Visitors to Manet Chapel do not hide their appreciation of this innovation in Accra Ridge Church.

Another innovation which has gained popular participation in the Manet Chapel is donation of used clothing. While most of us have more clothing than an average Ghanaian, we see it as our Christian religious duty to donate our excess clothing to the needy. (Matthew 25:36). Pursuant to this, members of the Men’s Fellowship supported by the Women’s Fellowship, joined by all members of Manet Chapel including our children, bring clothing every Sunday. These are donated to the needy in our society.

During the two year period of the Men’s Fellowship, lectures were organized on both religious and health topics. Knowledge gained during these lectures has been a tremendous enlightenment to those who attended.

Formation of a choir in Manet Chapel has been a very difficult one. Despite the difficulty, the few dedicated Choristers have changed worshipping at Manet from a dull to a vibrant one. In appreciation to their dedication, the Men’s fellowship has provided beautiful Choir robes to the Choir. The robes are decorated with Kente strip with a Christian cross and a Ghanaian (Gye Nyame) omnipotence of God which is Accra Ridge Church logo knitted on it.

We are mindful of the fact that the younger generation will one day take over from us. We have therefore commissioned a member to serve as an active patron to the youth of Manet chapel. The future of the church depends on the upbringing of our youth.

Even though membership of the Manet Chapel Men’s Fellowship is few, we are progressive and open to new ideas while being guided by the Accra Ridge Church tradition.
Tony Djentuh (secretary)
