October 13, 2002 saw the inauguration of the first group of, a Women’s Fellowship at the newly established wing of the Accra Ridge Church, The Manet Chapel. This was made possible through the instrumentality of the Women’s Fellowship at the main church who spearheaded a couple of meetings to get us started. When membership reached an appreciable number they supervised an election of first executives to steer the affairs of the fellowship in July 2002. The fellowship that started with a membership of 35 grew to 53 in the first year and is 85 at present. This comprises predominantly young members and a few old ones who are energized by the younger members with each passing day. The aims and objectives of the fellowship are: The fellowship is governed by an executive council made up of 8 elected members and 3 other nominated members, including the immediate past president. The executive meets once every month prior to a general meeting. The fellowship originally met once a month at 9am, on the 1st Saturday of the month. This was later changed to the third Sunday after church service. Now it is held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7pm. The general meetings serve as the platform for discussion of important and pressing issues as well as decision making and stock taking of our activities. Occasionally, talks on topics of common interest to women and/or the church as a whole, aerobics and health walks form an integral part of our meetings. We also spend some time to share in each others joy and sorrows as a way of promoting fellow feeling amongst members. As a way of sharing responsibility and for proper coordination of all our activities the fellowship has been divided into three committees, namely the Prayer Committee, Welfare Committee, and Fundraising committee. Each and every member must belong to one of these committees. The names of these committees clearly define their roles. In addition to these is a Finance Committee made up of representatives from each of the three committees. They meet to discuss our finances and ensure that each committee gets its fair share of the budget. The fellowship in its close to four year’s existence has carried out a lot of activities in realization of its goals and beyond. The Fundraising Committee has held a Food Fair and Sponsored Walk to raise funds to support the activities of the Sunday School, to mention a few. The Prayer Committee has facilitated a number of Revivals, Retreats, Prayer Chains and much liked Family Night held on the 24th December since 2003. The Welfare Committee has organized visits to a number of needy institutions like the Teshie Orphanage, the Frafraha Orphanage, the James Camp prison and the Rafiki Foundation at Medie to provide them with our widow’s mite. They have further seen to the general welfare of all members of the fellowship and the entire congregation to make the Manet Chapel one big family. We cannot allude to all these achievement without mentioning the immense contribution we have and continue to enjoy from both the present and past Chaplains who have encouraged and stood by us in the planning and implementation of all our activities. We have also enjoyed fantastic cooperation from other groups; the Men’s Fellowship the Couples Fellowship, the Youth and the congregation at large. The future looks bright as we plan to expand on all our activities both within and outreach, to increase our membership and to make Manet Church a place where all that come would feel very much at home. |
