Brief History In view of the heightened awareness of the needs of the older people in society towards the end of the 20th century, and the necessity for the provision of care to sustain their well-being, statutory and voluntary organizations, including churches all over the world, have been urged to provide care and welfare facilities to enhance the quality of life of the aged. Accordingly, Mission 50-1 was formed in the Accra Ridge Church in 1999 at the initiative of Rev. Dr. S. Ayete-Nyampong, when he served as the Coordinating Chaplain, to cater for the needs of members of the church who are 50 years and older. In December 2003, the first edition of the "Guidelines For Mission 50 Plus" was adopted to regulate the activities of the Association. There is an Executive Committee with an overall responsibility for running the affairs of the association which is assisted by six (6) Sub-Committees, each of which is responsible for a specific aspect of the work of the mission.
